Eat, EAT!

All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord's Supper), and to prayer.  Acts 2:42  NLT

On the first day of the week we met to break bread and eat together.  Paul spoke to the people.  He kept on talking until midnight because he planned to leave the next day.  Acts 20:7  NIRV

We eat a lot at our church.  We rarely have potlucks like many churches do; but when we come together to learn God's word, more likely than not, there is something to eat!  In the early church, "breaking bread" became a term that people used to refer to The Lord's Supper -- the sharing of bread and wine for the purpose of remembering the sacrifice of Jesus.  But they also just ate meals together.  Eating is universal and there are many examples in scripture when people ate either before, after, or as they studied God's word.

Many people feel that it is disrespectful to eat or drink during church or a Bible study.  But Jesus was social as well as practical.  He provided food for the body in addition to food for the soul (Remember the feeding of the 4,000 and the 5,000)!

In Romans 12, Paul taught us to be hospitable.  What is hospitable for an individual is also hospitable for a church.  Come as you are to Jesus.  Relax.  Have a cup of coffee or a cookie.  Then, eagerly learn about Jesus.
